How Can We Boost Leadership Development in the Digital Era?

17-Jan-2018 17:00 - 18:30

Regardless of a manager’s age, the Digital Era poses challenges and opportunities which can potentially dominate their work life and career for the foreseeable future. There are very few sectors, industries or professions that are immune to the effects of technology. Organisations of all types and sizes in all sectors need to be digitally transformed, as do the groups and individuals within them. Leaders must adapt their leadership styles to meet new, digitally oriented demands and expectations. Experience tells us that many leaders understand this, however during busy times, it’s easy for them to deprioritise learning and development and to focus on more demanding tasks and deadlines. Employees can participate in numerous, readily available, virtual, on-demand, and MOOC solutions, which do not require a great deal of time, budget or preparation. Despite this, managers do not seem to behave as they were trained to, and employee engagement is one of the biggest issues in almost every organisation. How can we encourage leaders and managers to apply their leadership knowledge and behave differently? How can we improve leadership development efficiency through technology? How can we help leaders to see the potential of technological innovations to increase compentences and to consider the possibilities that pursuing them can generate revenue? How can we design an efficient digital leadership education programme?
